Hello and welcome to my web site. I am putting this together for two main reasons. The first is to learn how, so hopefully it will (gradually) progress from looking fairly rubbish to looking OK. The second is because I thought it would be a good idea to share my recent experience of breaking my back while snowboarding. I broke two vertebrae and had to have an operation to sort it out. It helped me a lot to read about other peoples experiences of this type of thing on the web. When back injuries are mentioned, peoples first thought (including mine) is one of being paralysed. Although obviously this can happen you can also do a fair amount of damage to your spine without such serious consequences, although I wouldn't recommend it. I had very little idea about the treatment for my injury, and most of the things I learnt were from reading about other peoples similar experiences.
One consequence of my injury is that I have had a lot of spare time on my hands as I will be off work for at least 3 months. So I thought it would be a good time to get going on this little project.

At the moment on the site I have a webcam that looks out of the front of my house over the West Cumbrian fells although I seem to be having some technical difficulty with the picture from time to time. There is the diary of my back injury as mentioned above and a page containing a few photos. I intend to add more as time passes, but at the moment I am trying to concentrate on getting the look of the site OK and making it relatively easy to maintain and expand. I was already fairly familiar with HTML, but I am also looking at including CSS, PHP and Javascript. In the future I will be experimenting with whatever is flavour of the month for web site creation.
