BACK INJURY DIARY

X-Rays

The operation essentially involved stabilising the TH12 vertebra. This was done with a transpediculary instrumentation fixation, which means that I had rods stabilizing the vertebra fixed by screws which were put into the vertebrae either side of TH12, that is TH11 and L1.

I also had an autograft posterolateral fusion of my TH11 and TH12 vertebrae. This meant that the TH11 and TH12 vertebrae were fused together at the back (rather than via the disc), in my case using bone fragments from the original fracture

Please bear in mind that the above description is my interpretation of my medical notes from the hospital in Norway. As I am not medically trained it could be slightly inaccurate!

The thumbnails below show my post-operative CT scans with the obvious screws and rods.
